SUNDAY 1ST FEB 2009, CULTER V THE WASPS, at KAIMHILL. THE WASPS travel to Kaimhill to play Culter in their first match of the year. The game kicks off in dry cold conditions. THE WASPS start brightly and take the game to their opponents. THE WASPS are unlucky not to take the lead when a through ball by JASON DAVIE sends DOM BURNS through on goal, DOM sends his effort just wide of target. Not to be denied THE WASPS take the lead in their next attack. THE WASPS are awarded a corner and a good ball in by LEWIS STEPHEN is knocked into the Culter net by MATTHEW FRASER to give THE WASPS a deserved lead. Culter to their credit respond well and force themselves back into the game but THE WASPS back four marshalled by ARNIE ERSKINE are able to hold them out. END OF THE FIRST PERIOD CULTER 0 THE WASPS 1. The second period kicks off and the game is going from end to end. As the half progresses Culter are beginning to get on top but are finding THE WASPS a tough nut to crack. A good cross into the box by the Culter winger is met first time by their striker who sends his powerful shot goal wards only to be denied by JAY KNOWLES in THE WASPS goal. In their next attack Culter are awarded a penalty after their winger is fouled in the box by a WASPS DEFENDER. The penalty taker makes no mistake to give Culter a deserved equaliser. THE WASPS then make a change bringing on REGAN BROWN for ROSS MANN. THE WASPS then push forward and are rewarded with a well worked goal. REGAN BROWN wins possession of the ball out wide before crossing into the middle for the on rushing DOM BURNS. DOM heads the ball off the Culter post before knocking the rebound home to give THE WASPS a 2 - 1 lead. Just on the stroke of half time LEWIS ROSS is unlucky when he hammers a shot in from 25 yards narrowly wide. END OF THE SECOND PERIOD CULTER 1 THE WASPS 2 The final period kicks off and both teams are pushing forward at every opportunity. Both teams are working hard and pushing for the next goal. Culter force themselves back into the game with a equalising goal. The ball is played into THE WASPS box and THE WASPS defence for about the first time fail to clear the lines and the ball is knocked home to make the score line 2- 2. THE WASPS to their credit roll up their sleeves and JASON DAVIE begins to win the battle in the middle of the park. As the half continues THE WASPS are beginning to push Culter back and are rewarded when ARNIE ERSKINE plays a delightful through ball to DOM BURNS and he smashes the ball past the Culter keeper to give THE WASPS a 3-2 lead. THE WASPS then survive when a scramble in their area results with a Culter striker slamming the ball off THE WASPS bar. THE WASPS then finish the game off with another well taken goal from DOM BURNS. DOM races through and knocks the ball past the advancing keeper to give THE WASPS hard earned victory against a strong and very well organised Culter side. FINAL SCORE CULTER 2 THE WASPS 4 A terrific game of football between 2 decent teams. THE WASPS deserve great credit for their performance today. Lots of good things to take from today's fine performance. Great individual performances from ARNIE ERSKINE, LEWIS ROSS, DOM BURNS, RYAN STEPHENSON,MATTHEW FRASER and JAY KNOWLES. The rest of the team also played very well and finished very strong. Good to see the lads keep their shape and work for one another as a team. A terrific hat-trick from DOM BURNS. SHEDDOCKSLEY V THE WASPS SUNDAY 22ND FEBRUARY, AT SHEDDOCKSLEY PARK. THE WASPS travel to play Sheddocksley for the first time this season. The match kicks off and both teams are finding it very hard in the conditions to play any football. THE WASPS are playing with a strong wind behind them and are forcing Sheddocksley back. The Sheddocksley team are defending well and when THE WASPS get through on goal the Sheddocksley keeper is on top form. THE WASPS are unlucky on a few occasions in the first half with DOM BURNS striking the post and the Sheds keeper making a couple of good saves. As the half goes on THE WASPS keep pushing Sheds back but credit to Sheds for holding out to halftime with a very spirited performance. HALF TIME SHEDDOCKSLEY 0 THE WASPS 0 The second half kicks off and both are pushing forward. THE WASPS are actually playing better know against a very strong wind. Sheds with the wind at their backs are also now causing THE WASPS backline more problems. Sheds take the lead when a through ball beats THE WASPS defence and The Sheds striker coolly chips the ball over JAY'S head to give Sheds the lead. A very good finish from the Sheds striker. Straight from kick off THE WASPS push forward when DOM BURNS shot is parried by the Sheds keeper straight to an onrushing striker who puts the ball over from 3 yards out. Credit to THE WASPS they keep pushing forward and are denied on several occasions by the Sheds keeper and some poor finishing. Sheds put the game beyond THE WASPS when they increase their lead with a second goal.. A long range shot is saved by JAY but the Sheds striker is first to react and knocks the ball home to give Sheds a 2 - 0 lead. THE WASPS continue to push forward and great run and shot from DOM BURNS smacks off the inside of the Sheds post and is cleared by the Sheds defence. THE WASPS keep fighting to the end but Sheds hold on for a 2-0 victory. FULL TIME SHEDDOCKSLEY 2 THE WASPS 0 Despite the defeat not to disappointed by the performance once we got going. On another day could have easily won the match but must learn to take our chances. After we missed the opportunity to equalise right after the first goal , i knew it was not going to our day ( I think we could have played all day and still not have scored) But credit to the kids as they fought and worked hard to the end. The second half performance was very good considering the conditions. As usual Sheddocksley worked hard, were very well organised and took their chances in front of goal. Another good , steady performances from LEWIS ROSS in midfield, ARNIE at the back, JAY in goals and REECE MATTHEW. Keep your heads up. |

ALBION V THE WASPS at HARLAW 15TH MARCH 2009 The WASPS travel to play ALBION for the first time this season. The game kicks off in perfect conditions, ALBION start the game very well and THE WASPS are struggling to impose themselves on the game. It is no surprise when ALBION take the lead with a well work goal.ALBION are now in full flow and are causing the WASPS backline all sorts of problems.ALBION increase the scoreline and after only 18mins are 4-0 ahead. THE WASPS to there credit keep fighting and working and as the half goes on come more into the game. JASON DAVIE, DOM BURNS and REECE MATTHEW are now beginning to get on the ball and make ALBION work. THE WASPS are unlucky not to pull a goal back on several occassion with DOM BURNS and MATTHEW FRASER both having strikes at goal. THE WASPS are denied a certain goal on the stroke of half-time with a terrific save from the ALBION keeper. DOM BURNS is denied with a header after a great run and cross from REECE MATTHEW. A good finish to the half from the WASPS. HALF TIME ALBION 4 THE WASPS 0 The second half kicks off and THE WASPS continue where they finished off the first half. THE WASPS are now competing for every ball and trying to take the game to ALBION. DOM BURNS is unlucky with a long range effort that comes back off THE ALBION crossbar, not to be out done THE WASPS get a deserved goal from there next attack. A long ball by LEWIS ROSS is knocked into the box by DOM BURNS and his cross lands in the back of the ALBION net to make the scoreline 4 - 1. The game is now going from end to end and next on the scoresheet are ALBION with a strike from the edge of the box. THE WASPS then pull another back with a tremendous individual goal from DOM BURNS. DOM beats 2 ALBION defenders at the edge of the box and thunders home a shot to make the scoreline 5 - 2. ALBION then make the scoreline 6 -2 when their striker is put through on goal after the ball hits the referee to make it 6 -2. THE WASPS keep going and are rewarded when JASON DAVIE scores with a well taken finish to reduce the scoreline. THE WASPS are then awarded a penalty when DOM BURNS is pulled back by an ALBION defender. DOM steps up and scores to complete his hat-trick. THE WASPS are trying to push forward at every opportunity and LEWIS STEPHENS has a long range volley go just past the post. ALBION are also still creating chances and score again to make the scoreline 7 - 4. THE WASPS continue to push forward but are caught out again when ALBION break forward to score no 8. THE WASPS score again when a good throw by REECE MATTHEW is collected by ARNIE ERSKINE and he fires the ball into the roof of the net from 30 yards to complete the scoring in this entertaining game. FINAL SCORE ALBION 8 THE WASPS 5 After a shocking start to the game with some poor defending, workrate and failure to clear our lines THE WASPS managed to pull themselves back into this game. THE WASPS must take great credit for their second half performance against a very strong ALBION team. After being 4 goals down, a great fighting performance. Effort, workrate, some very good goals and some nice football played at times. Must start matches better, we are giving teams 2 goals of a start every week before we even turn up. Must start believing that we are going to win games from the start no matter the opposition.Lets start next week like we finished today. Some very good performances in the second half from REECE MATTHEW, JASON DAVIE, ROSS MANN and ARNIE ERSKINE. A special mention to DOM BURNS for a terrific all round display including a well deserved hat-trick and to the rest of the team for not letting their heads go down and showing the commitment you did.. I would also like to thank ALBION and the referee for a very entertaining game of football. |
